    Birds

Keeping birds well comes down to three things: a varied diet, a cage with enough room to properly stretch and fly, and enough to keep a clever animal occupied. Our bird range covers all of it, with seed and pellet mixes, cages and aviaries, perches, toys, treats and health products for budgies, canaries, cockatiels, finches and parrots.

Seed alone is rarely enough. Most pet birds do better on a base of formulated pellets with seed as part of the mix, topped up with fresh greens, fruit and the occasional protein treat. Cuttlebone or a mineral block should always be available for calcium, particularly for hens. On housing, width matters more than height for most species, since birds fly across rather than up, and natural-branch perches of varying diameter do far more for foot health than uniform dowel.

Boredom is the most common welfare problem in pet birds and shows up as feather plucking, screaming or listlessness. Rotate toys weekly rather than leaving the same ones in permanently, and include foraging toys that make a bird work for food. Petworld has been supplying bird keepers since 1993, and our team is happy to help you pick a setup that suits your species.
