Terrapins and turtles are long-lived animals with specific dietary needs, and getting the food right early avoids a lot of trouble later. Our range covers floating pellets, sticks, dried shrimp, gammarus and treat foods for aquatic and semi-aquatic species.
Aquatic turtles need to eat in water, since they use it to swallow. Many keepers feed in a separate container to keep the main tank cleaner, which works well and makes portions easier to judge. Juveniles are more carnivorous and need feeding daily; adults shift toward plant matter and do better on every other day. Calcium is critical, so provide a cuttlebone in the water and dust foods where appropriate, as shell deformities from calcium deficiency are permanent.
Overfeeding is the most common mistake, and it shows up in water quality long before it shows up in the animal. Feed what can be eaten in a few minutes, remove uneaten food, and keep filtration well above what the tank volume alone would suggest.
